The Amazing World of Crystals – Part One
The Alps. Hikers stop on a path winding along the valley floor next to a stream. They look up to watch two figures sliding down ropes to reach a ledge half way up a cliff. The figures secure themselves and excitedly start tapping at the cliff face with hammers. On the ledge, the experienced father shows his son the perfect quartz crystal that he has liberated for the rock.
Crystals occur naturally in Mother Nature and have fascinated humankind since the dawn of time. They can be found in virtually every country on the Earth. Because of this universality, different cultures have used and traded crystals for millennia. This vast experience has been passed down through the ages. New generations of psychics have added new and consolidated old knowledge, keeping it safe for future generations. Crystals as grave goods have been found from the earliest civilisations, for example, carnelian amulets were used by the ancient Egyptians to represent the heart.
Crystals focus psychic energy in different ways; they can be help psychics see and interpret more clearly as well as helping them to heal. A pure crystal has a uniform structure and can be startlingly transparent or translucent. Small traces of impurities in crystals give gorgeous colours, yellows, reds, blues and purple are not uncommon. There are literally thousands of crystals, some are better known than others either because they are more powerful or more readily available.
In the rest of this article, we will take a look at just a few of the more commonly used crystals, their powers and how to cleanse and charge them.
Amethyst is a variety of quartz and is sometimes referred to as the ‘Master Healing Crystal’. It calms and balances the emotions, quelling anger and bringing a strong feeling of contentment to the subject. It can be used as a dream stone because of its soothing effect aiding insomniacs to achieve sleep and give them pleasant dreams.
For the ambitious, purple amethyst is one of the key crystals to have as it is associated with power and wisdom. It transmutes lower, potentially negative energy into higher frequency energy, thus cleansing the aura and stabilising the energy flowing within the body.
Since it stimulates the Crown Chakra, it is one of the crystals used by psychics wishing to enhance their powers of clairvoyance. As you will see later, it is one of several that can develop latent or weak psychic powers into much stronger forces.
Azurite is a copper mineral with a purple/blue colouration. The Crown Chakra is associated with the colour purple and so is stimulated by this crystal. But Azurite stimulates not only the Crown Chakra but also the Third Eye Chakra which is associated with indigo. As with purple amethyst, it is therefore a crystal of choice for aspiring psychics as it speeds up the development of their powers of clairvoyance and interpretation associated with the use of the Third Eye.
It is a ‘Stone of Heaven’ which promotes self awareness and a deep meditative state. The Third Eye Chakra is associated with dreams, concentration, intuition and wisdom. When used during deep meditation, those are enhanced – no creative writer or artist should overlook this, especially when struggling for inspiration.
Psychic healers will use Azurite to aid patients with thyroid, liver, kidney and gall bladder problems. Since it is based on copper, it is a detoxing crystal.
Carnelian is a female stone which, in the right hands, heals and balances the reproductive system. It has a dual nature. On the one hand, it is a dynamic crystal, energising the body and stimulating the Sacral Chakra. On the other hand, it has a calming effect. This dual nature is not uncommon amongst crystals and is not a contradiction as you might imagine. Absorbing negative energy leaves the body calmer yet refreshed as the positive can then flow more freely, exerting its influence on the whole being. It is a protective stone and helps to guard against psychic intrusion.
It is frequently used to synergise other crystals. One example of this is with orange calcite. Singly, they calm the body but together, they become more than the whole and act as a powerful anti-depressant.
It is said that if you include a pebble of carnelian in the grit at the bottom of your fish tank, it will bring prosperity.
In the next instalment, we will take a closer look at some of the other wonderful crystals bestowed on us by Mother Nature.
